So I finished the book. I'm not sure how I feel about it. I'm pissed at some of the people involved because they could have changed the outcome or something. I'm just angry about the senseless loss of life. But I guess the only way to…

I think that we need to go into fiction for the next book. Some of us are flagging trying to slog through the non-fiction of this novel. Stacking another non-fic next might not be the best choice. I don't have any suggestions, but I know that…

WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS I just finished this afternoon. I had read about the Mt. Everest expeditions when I was in college and was somewhat familiar with the expedition leaders who perished on the mountain--Hall, Fischer, and Harris. But I never…

Well, I looked at the pics and didn't cry until the middle the book, but then I kept crying for a while. I'm going to start Three Cups of Tea next. So I guess we'll use that for our third book. Peg

So I bought the book last night, and I'm hooked. I know, I know. Warning though, don't flip to the pics because it spoils who dies, and it made me cry early in the book when I was learning about backstory. I went to bed talking about what…

Oh, wonderful! I've also just finished reading "Into the Wild," another book by Jon K. It's the story of Chris McCandless.

I admit, I haven't even purchased the book yet. I am not a fan of historical fiction as a general rule and nonfiction gets the bump as well. I live in the world of fiction, both feet planted. But I purchased a book called Three Cups of Tea…

Into Thin Air

Wow. This book started slow for me, but I'm not much into history sans story, but by page 50, i hated to stop reading. I began this reading at our leadership retreat, and I have to admit, I was in the middle of a delightful novel and didn't really think I'd enjoy this work--but once again--it happens often--i was hooked on the story. I sure hope the rest of the ALI start the reading so we can discuss many of the decisions that the participants in the climb of Mt. Everest made.PegSee More

Come on Down

Don't forget to save the date: August 8, 2009. We're having our inaugural WRD (Writing, Reading, Doing) Workshop. We'll meet at GSW's English building in room 212. From there we'll venture out for a writing marathon downtown. Please plan to buy your lunch downtown while we are out. Bring your friends, and please don't forget your journal. We'll be writing around Global Village and Cafe Campesino. We're thinking Monroe's Hotdogs for lunch. If you haven't been through our site in the summer,…See More
